Students from the Sandra Cisneros Learning Academy in Echo Park, Los Angeles were affected by this week’s double fatality fire in Echo Park. The fire, which killed two and injured an additional 4, occurred Thursday, December 12 on the 1000 block of North Bonnie Brae Street.
In addition to the fatalities and injuries, families lost their homes and all of their belongings. Some of those families were of students who attend the nearby Sandra Cisneros Learning Academy located at 1018 Mohawk St. Los Angeles, CA 90026.
Annabel Alvarez, the Office Manager for the academy, has initiated a donation drive on GoFundMe to help the students and victims of the fire.
Here is the information for the donation drive:
7 Camino Nuevo – Cisneros students and families lost their homes and all of their belongings this past Thursday, December 12th during a tragic fire. Our principal reached out to the families personally and learned that while the families are now well, they are in desperate need of clothes for their children. As you can imagine, losing everything you own and having to rebuild your family’s life from scratch is really difficult and requires the support and generosity of a community. We are hoping to help in a small way by raising at least $500.00 per family! (However, if we raise more money we will split this money equally per family.) Any contribution and support of our families is greatly appreciated!
The principal of the academy is Shannon Leonard.
