Every day we pick an Echo Park neighborhood picture of the day through our Echo Park Forums Instagram Account. We have a lot of fun with these–while it’s easy to point to Echo Park Lake as the most picturesque shot each and every day (especially with our Southern California sunsets), we also enjoy pointing out different aspects of Echo Park life.
If you’re a casual photographer in or around Echo Park and want us to come upon your photo, simply hashtag #echopark through your Instagram or Twitter accounts, and/or tag us @echoparkforums in the pictures or commentary.
All of the following photos are published with the photographer’s consent.

Though we would’ve liked to see this shot in landscape mode (to capture more horizontally), we enjoyed this picture. We usually see the lake and fountains from the ground, but Instagram users Sonina and JesuitLewis give us a bit of an aerial view, allowing us to appreciate the overall beauty of Echo Park within the framework of the city, with the Western golden sunset fading in the background, the Hollywood hills giving us a horizon, and our ol’ Echo Park Lake boathouse peeking its way in. Beautiful picture!

We carried a pet theme for the picture of the day this Tuesday, December 3, 2013 (we even had a couple of runner-ups, also with a pet theme). In this picture, the black cat, whose name is Guinan, stares frighteningly at a dark-cupped substance in an Echo Park home. Photo Credit: Instagram user Cphotorun.

As a tribute to the upcoming Echo Park Community Parade on December 14, 2013, we chose this drawing by Lucas Hubert, a Pre-K student at Elysian Heights Elementary. Inspired by this year’s parade theme, “Neighbors Make Echo Park Beautiful”, students across our community schools were asked to participate in an art contest that best depicts the theme for this year. For more information, visit the official Echo Park parade website.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Thursday at Echo Park. Instagram user KC_Maples creatively placed a ninja turtle on a lakeside rock and let it bask in the sun with the Echo Park Lake fountains towering in a blurry background.

As another tribute to the upcoming Echo Park Community Parade which we should all attend in a little more than a week, Friday’s picture of the day came from Instagram user Unbearable Pleasures, who took a picture of our iconic corner, a simple shot that strikes a balance between color and grey while capturing an interaction that is so common yet special. The parade has traditionally always happened on Sunset, where it crosses through many of our streets, including this corner at Echo Park Avenue.
Want to learn more about the upcoming 2013 parade, as well as some history about Echo Park? For our podcast we interviewed Ms. Maryanne Hayashi, Executive Director of Central Civil Action Committee, a youth based non-profit based in Echo Park that also helps organize the parade. In the podcast, Ms. Maryanne Hayashi talks about her experience organizing the parade for more than 30 years. Listen to the interview here.

Saturday’s picture is that of a birthday girl looking to order from Masa of Echo Park. It’s evident in her eyes that she knows it’s her birthday and that the many options at Masa are just an order away, including any dessert. Out of curiousity, and because of the girl’s wonderful look into the menu, we asked her mother what the birthday girl ordered from Masa that day: a bistro pizza with cheese. This weekend felt like the day that people used to get their Christmas/holiday decorations up. The seasons are in the air. This picture helps accent the holiday mood around town–there’s no denying that the holiday season is upon us. In this shot, a film crew shoots a holiday commercial at Chevron Gas Station on Sunset Blvd. Yes, Hollywood brought us the snow this time around. Photo credit: Instagram user Kasherwood.
