Every day we pick an Echo Park neighborhood picture of the day through our Echo Park Forums Instagram Account. We have a lot of fun with these–while it’s easy to point to Echo Park Lake as the most picturesque shot each and every day (especially with our Southern California sunsets), we also enjoy pointing out different aspects of Echo Park life.
If you’re a casual photographer in or around Echo Park and want us to come upon your photo, simply hashtag #echopark through your Instagram or Twitter accounts, and tag us @echoparkforums.

Monday’s Echo Park picture of the day came from Instagram user @Tonycotzajay. Tony layered the Echo Park Lake for us, first showing us nicely framed weeds, followed by our lake’s paddle boats, then by a still lake, the neighborhood buildings, and finally palm trees silhouetted against a soft Southern California sunset. No one would guess it’s Los Angeles, right? Follow @Tonycotzajay for other awesome LA shots!

Instagram user @Chillrightquick caught a full frame of our Echo Park Lake palm trees in December, which even appear through reflections on the picture’s bottom lake frame. Can you count them all? Yet, the sun still shows through.

On the portrait side of things, we also enjoyed this one which was taken on Glendale Blvd. right under the Sunset bridge. Follow LA photographer @2sabesone for more portrait pictures of models around Los Angeles.

We take a turn for the worst on Thursday when the Echo Park neighborhood was hit with an apartment fire. 2 people lost their lives, 4 were injured, and over 25 others lost their homes.

The picture of the day for Friday stayed with the news from the Echo Park apartment fire. On the aftermath of the fire, Instagram user @Loidddd takes a shot of his old apartment building. He was a resident of the complex, and we were happy to hear that he came out unharmed.
A Friday Bonus
On a positive note for Friday, we also enjoyed this one by @Secession. This Echo Park Lake picture is so cool and different that it takes a couple of seconds to realize what is going on.
Special Barragan’s Goodbye (from Echo Park)
A picture of Ramon Barragan and family on the last day of the restaurant he opened in Echo Park in 1961. Lots of memories, lost of meals served. Goodbye Barragan’s, you will be missed!

It was a busy day in Echo Park on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Our picture of the day went to the kids. In the spirit of Maryanne Hayashi, the parade’s all about the kids, for them to show off their talent, and for others to come out with the family. Whether they participated or watched, we hope it was a great family day for kids and parents.

Instagram user @Huckleberry828 tagged his own picture “Cotton Candy”–perfect way to describe the amazing sunset we saw to end the week.
