Much of the central and western United States was able to experience a total lunar eclipse in the evening and overnight hours between Monday and Tuesday, April 15. LA weather was clear, except for some light, thin passing clouds from time to time, and residents saw a clear view of the “blood moon”.
A blood moon happens when the moon, Earth, and the sun are aligned. Spectators are able to witness Earth slowly bite into the full moon and hide it away until covering it whole, with the only remaining sight being an outline of red light around the moon. According to astronomy experts, the red is caused by a collection of sunsets happening across Earth which reflect some of the reddish rays on to the moon.
As the eclipse advances, Earth continues to move and give way to light as the moon eventually gains its size and light again. People only needed their bare eyes to see the lunar eclipse.
Alongside the lunar eclipse, Mars was also visible as it is the closest it has been to Earth in six years.
Echo Park residents spent a good amount of time waiting for the bloody moon. Some used their iPhones, and others took out their more apt digital cameras.
A total lunar eclipse helps us see our space in Earth. We are able to embody Earth and feel as if we are taking part in casting a shadow on the moon. It reminds us of the daily dance that occurs between the Earth, the sun and the moon.
According to CafeAstrology.com:
Lunar eclipses are relationship-oriented. The ‘crisis’ that these eclipses tend to elicit is a crisis of lack–a time when we suddenly recognize a great need or want. This is a time when matters come to light–things that have been brewing under the surface. Lunar Eclipses are about relationships and polarities. This [April 15] Lunar Eclipse presses us to look more closely at our needs, lacks, and wants in our lives concerning the balance between Aries-ruled and Libra-ruled areas of life. This Lunar Eclipse gives us a cosmic push to make needed changes in our lives. The areas of life activated by the eclipse may see dramatic turns, after which the path is clear to move forward. Whatever happens at this time is nothing truly new. The issues have been brewing inside of us, and emotions have been building. Something comes to light at the time of the Lunar Eclipse, and if we get in touch with our emotions, we can get a better idea of what needs to change, or what needs to go.
