Graphic picture of roadkill in Echo Park

posted in: Pictures | 2

The photographer found this turtle lying on the west side of Glendale Blvd. in Echo Park, right across from Echo Park Lake. She mentioned that it was by the first set of stairways that are closest to Sunset Blvd.

By the turtle’s positioning on the street, she believed this to be roadkill, with the assumption that it must’ve made its way from Echo Park Lake.

We took some time thinking about whether to share this incredibly sad and horrific picture of this giant turtle.

We decided to do so, in the hopes that this shocking picture reminds us to be careful when driving across our urban streets. In and around the lake area there is wildlife that shares the park and city with us–all sorts of creatures, winged and crawlers.

We’re fortunate to be able to witness how they live and interact with the environment in the middle of the 2nd largest city in the U.S. We hope this picture spreads the message forward–protect our urban wildlife, and be careful on the road.
