Mi Vida Loca Synopsis
Mousie and Sad Girl are childhood best friends in the urban Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park. But when Sad Girl becomes pregnant by Mousie’s boyfriend, a young drug dealer named Ernesto, the two become bitter enemies. While their dispute escalates towards unfortunate violence, the violence of the world around them soon also impacts their lives in other ways.
Mi Vida Loca is a coming of age cult film from the 1990’s. The film was written and directed by Allison Anders and stars Angel Aviles, Seidy Lopez, Jacob Vargas, and more. The cast also includes real-life residents from the neighborhood where the story takes place (and where it was filmed)–Echo park, Los Angeles, CA.
The film shows scenes from around Echo Park, including Echo Park Lake, Sunset Blvd., Echo Park Ave., and the iconic corner at Echo Park and Morton Avenues. The characters are influenced by gang culture, and actively participate in male and female gangs in the neighborhood. The story is told from the point of view of life in Echo Park for the young men and women involved, most notably a group of female friends who must reconcile their differences while coping with love, family, violence, and poverty in Echo Park.
